This centre of moral and academic excellence, Marist Brothers’ Juniorate (MBJ), Uturu in Abia State of Nigeria, is a missionary school owned and managed by Catholic Rev. Brothers in the Marist Congregation. This is not limited to just Nigeria, but it is among so many other Marist schools scattered all around the world. The history of MBJ dates back to 1965 with 30 students as pioneers. The core objective of these pioneer students was to become Marist Brothers. However, the Nigerian Civil War of 1967 – 1970 interrupted the aspiration. Providentially, in 1971 after the war, God blessed the post-war MBJ with 34 students. This was indeed, a new rebirth which prospered to the historical climax of golden jubilee celebration of the school in 2015. In Marist Brothers’ Juniorate, we give a holistic Christian education to children and young people in Nigeria and even beyond, with special attention to those with learning difficulties, through clearly defined secondary education which will enable them to face life challenges. The height so far attained by the school is informed by the precedence given to moral, religious and academic values which are its topmost objectives and indeed, the sweetest lure of attraction. A few of our innumerable academic achievements can attest to this. Our students have at different times displayed much prowess in various external competitions both at national and international levels such as: First position in the 2018 National Chemistry Competition held in Ibadan, First position in 2018 National Informatics Olympiad held in Abuja, 2019 National Interswitch SPAK Science Competition held in Lagos, 2019 Mathematics for Life Competition in Umuahia, 2019 National Champion,
Nigeria Bilingual Spelling Bee held in PortHarcourt and lots more. These, no doubt, are made possible due to the serene learning environment and state-of-the-Art instructional materials available in the school, such as: the well-equipped laboratories – Computer, Mathematics, AudioVisual, Chemistry, Physics, Biology – Geographical Garden, first-class fish pond and poultry farms for agricultural and entrepreneurial studies, uninterrupted solar power system, standard gymnasium, ultramodern basketball court, sports complex et cetera. To ensure adequate security in the school, Closed-Circuit Television (CCTv) Cameras and digital identity cards for staff and students are installed. Every parent desires to give a balanced foundation to his/her child for a holistic growth and development. In MBJ, we have all it takes to make this desire come true.
